The flight from Santiago to Punta Arenas passes some of the most
magnificent scenery of any airline flight I have experienced. If
the weather is good (which it was for us on this last day of 2012),
the views are breathtaking. When you're flying south, try to get
a window seat on the left side of the plane; when flying north from
Punta Arenas to Santiago, a window seat on the right.
Four glaciers merge into a glacial cliff from which calved ice is
visible downstream.
The spires of
Torres del Paine
are one of Chile's most magnificent sights, reaching an altitude of 3050 metres above sea level.
