I'm not a fan of big cities, but if I had to choose one in which to live, Santiago would be at the top of the list. It is such a vibrant place: construction is underway everywhere, the city rocks day and night, and you can just sense the exuberance of creative people living in an unfettered market economy. They've tried the other way and this is much, much better.

A short walk from our hotel was the Parque Araucano, an urban park with greenery, gardens, a swimming pool, playgrounds, and many walking paths.

The 300 metre Gran Torre Santiago, soon to be completed, is the tallest building in South America.
