Santiago is a large first world city with a population of more than 7 million
in the metropolitan area located in a basin bounded by the Andes mountains
and the Chilean coast range. Here is a view of the snow-capped Andes from
our hotel room.
The Metropolitan Cathedral is a stunning sight and evidence of the wealth of
Chile in the epoch in which it was built.
The altar in this side chapel of the cathedral is made of silver.
Like Los Angeles, Santiago suffers from air pollution due to its being
enclosed in a ring of mountains. Still, sometimes the views are
glorious. Here's a view of Santiago and the Andes from Cerro
San Cristóbal, and below a panorama from this location.
