This box was right outside the hotel room we stayed in our last
night in South Africa. Sure, I know that "brand" is the word
for "fire" in Afrikaans (and Dutch...and German), but I thought
the juxtaposition was rather nice. The hotel, in Sandton,
about mid-way between Johannesburg and Pretoria, resembled an
armed compound, surrounded by a high wall with razor wire and
electrically operated gates. Every time I saw this box I
imagined myself running down the hall screaming and waving a
flaming torch.
