Now This Is Odd: Star Wars Stamps
© 2007 USPS. All Rights Reserved.
Yesterday I received a letter posted from the United States and couldn't help but remark that it bore three stamps figuring
Star Wars characters: C-3PO and two from the Three Tedious Prequels. Turns out there's a whole series of
Star Wars stamps issued to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original film.
What's curious about this is that
Star Wars is a
commercial property, generating revenue for its owners from sales of media of the movies, books, games, and the multitudinous
merchandising tie-ins of these characters. So the U.S. Postal Service is selling stamps which promote the products of a specific enterprise? Imagine the possibilities! What's next: Barbie and Big Mac stamps?
