Ships that Pass in the Polar Day

The morning after our departure from Murmansk, our ship encountered and made a close photo pass around another Russian icebreaker chartered by Quark Expeditions, the diesel-electric Капитан Хлэбников (Kapitan Khlebnikov), returning to Murmansk from a voyage through the Northeast Passage.

Based in Vladivostok, the Khlebnikov is also used in the southern summer for expeditions to Antarctica.

After the photo opportunity, the two ships resumed their respective courses, North and South.
