As expected, the harpie-lawyers in San Diego and Philadelphia filed a shareholder suit on February 2, 1992. Autodesk's general counsel described this action as “one of the many repugnant lawsuits filed whenever high-technology companies' stock prices drop, ” asserting “the lawsuit is meritless, and (Autodesk) will defend the action vigorously.” On December 9th, 1992 Autodesk settled this lawsuit by paying $5,000,000 into a settlement fund. This was described to me as a “risk avoidance business decision.” Autodesk employees were provided claim forms so they could share in the bounty.
